Serge Blanco was born in Caracas on August 31, 1958 to a Basque mother and a Venezuelan father.
He is considered the best French rugby player of all time and one of the greatest players in the history of world rugby.

Serge Blanco began his career in 1974 at Biarritz Olympique. A one-club man, he remained loyal to the BO throughout his career. From the 1980s onwards, he was unanimously considered the best full-back in France, if not the world. While he caused a sensation in the French championship, it was on the international stage that he would leave an indelible mark. With the blue jersey bearing the rooster, he won no fewer than six Five Nations tournaments, including two Grand Slams (in 1981 and 1987).
THE END OF THE WORLD TRIAL
It was the main event that would be the highlight of his career. In 1987, rugby finally had a World Cup, the first edition of which was held in New Zealand. Serge Blanco, at the height of his powers, shone with his talent with an ultimate masterpiece in the semi-final against Australia, where he scored the winning try at the end of an anthology action. Vice-World Champion, he entered the pantheon of figures who have marked the history of rugby.
THE PELÉ OF RUGBY
At the twilight of a career rich in titles and exploits, the individual record that Serge Blanco will have forged is even more eloquent. He holds the record for tries scored (38) with the French team, in 93 selections, including 17 as captain. Voted best French player six times, it is nevertheless a very unofficial title that best sums up what he was on the oval ball. An unclassifiable and incomparable player, he will remain the "Pelé of rugby", a nickname acquired on the field.
